Wish Kid Needs Your Help Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2008
From: Jill@kidswishnetwork.org
To: picoubuild@hotmail.com

Dear Jamie,
Thank you for taking the time to speak to me today. Please accept this letter as our request for your help to make the dream of a very special 16-year-old girl, from Coshocton, with a life threatening illness come true. Trisha’s only wish is to go to Disneyworld! We have taken care of all the arrangements and are hoping that your organization will be willing to sponsor all or part of her wish. Your sponsorship will include airfare, gas money, lodging, vehicle rental, tickets to Florida theme parks, and spending money.
Due to the generosity of our many corporate friends, we are able to furnish this trip at a greatly reduced rate. Sponsorship for this entire trip will be approximately $2000.00.

We hope you can help.Of course, we would want to recognize your generosity. We would be honored to put your link on our website and you will be listed as an official sponsor of this wish. Your sponsorship is tax deductible. We will also send you a beautiful wall display to remind you of your act of caring. 100% of your contribution will be used to pay for actual wish expenses. No administrative costs will be taken from your donation. In the event that we raise more money than needed for this particular wish, be assured that any remaining funds will be used to pay for the wish expenses of another child in your region.

Trisha is a sweet young lady who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease after her doctors determined that she was born with kidneys that were not completely formed. She began having problems a few years ago and had to have bladder reconstruction surgery. Her kidneys are currently only functioning at about 40% and she is on a daily medication regimen to prevent dialysis and kidney failure. Despite all she has to go through, Trisha remains in good spirits.

She is active in the 4H Club and is part of The Honor Society. Her favorite color is orange and her favorite team is Ohio State. Her favorite subject is math and she enjoys playing Solitaire.

Kids Wish Network is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children between the ages of three and eighteen who are living with life threatening illnesses. It is our mission to fulfill the last wishes of children who will never have the opportunities that most of us take for granted. We rely on the compassion of people such as you to make their dreams come true. Please let me know of any creative ideas you may have to make this wish even more special.

We may not be able to change Trisha’s uncertain future, but together we can make her dream come true. I hope that you will consider our Mission worthy of your support and Trisha’s wish deserving of your participation. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Time is of the essence and I anxiously await your response. Hoping all your days are Wish Filled.

More information on Trisha:

"I Want to Go to Disney World!"
Sixteen-year-old Trisha is an amazingly dynamic young woman. She is involved in many different activities at her high school and outside of it, including the National Honor Society, B.P.A. and going to the local Career Center. Not only those, but Trisha is also a very active 4-H club member! She loves softball and football, following her favorite Ohio State teams closely. A friendly, outgoing girl, Trisha has two dogs and her favorite color is orange.
In the sixth grade, Trisha was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. It was then that her doctors determined that her kidneys were not completely formed before birth. Due to her condition, she is on a daily medication regimen to reduce the chances of her needing dialysis, even though she has already had to endure bladder reconstruction surgery. Every six months, Trisha has to travel to the hospital for more tests and is on a special diet to ensure optimal kidney performance. This energetic young lady did not hesitate when she was asked what wish she wanted granted: she longed to visit the “most magical place on Earth,” Disney World!

WHAT MAKES Kids Wish Network DIFFERENT?
Unlike most other national organizations, Kids Wish Network grants wishes throughout the United States from one central office. We have found that technology has eliminated the need for expensive chapters and duplication of overhead, and one location provides enhanced oversight, ensuring quality control and consistency of the services we provide.
Kids Wish Network has developed a funeral assistance program to assist the families of our wish kids who have passed away.

Our unique “Guardian Angel Fund” was opened with a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation. Donations over $500 may be directed to this fund, where 100% of the proceeds go directly toward fulfilling children’s wishes. The fund is set up so that no overhead or other operating expenses can be withdrawn from this account at any time.
To defray transportation costs for our wish children and their families, Kids Wish Network’s Travel Fund was established with a grant from PUBLIX SUPER MARKETS CHARITIES. Donations over $500 may be directed to this fund, where 100% of the proceeds go directly toward paying travel costs for our wish kids. The fund is set up so that no overhead or other operating expenses can be withdrawn from this account at any time.

Kids Wish Network is unparalleled in its efforts to seek out actively, children who have “slipped through the cracks” of society: those without parents or other advocates.
Unlike most organizations, which require a child’s physician to sign a statement of probability that the child will not survive past the age of eighteen, Kids Wish Network requires only that the physician verify the child’s condition as life-threatening. We believe in celebrating life and encourage our wish families and kids to remain hopeful.

Kids Wish Network doesn’t end contact once a child’s wish is fulfilled. In fact, we make every effort to maintain ongoing relationships with all of our wish kids. After the children receive their wishes, we send cards for special occasions and extend invitations to participate in special contests and events.

At Kids Wish Network, children are assigned their own wish coordinators to oversee every aspect of the wish. We take the time to find out as much as we can about each wish child and his or her favorite things. This enables us to go the extra mile to custom-tailor and personalize many facets of each child’s wish.

Kids Wish Network’s Holiday of Hope was established to provide children who are confined to the hospital, and their siblings, with the magic of a memorable day of gifts and celebrity visitors, as well as to establish a community bond with the hospitals that care for these children.

Although Kids Wish Network’s primary mission is to grant first wishes, under extraordinary circumstances our Board Of Directors may approve a second wish to a child who has already had a wish granted by Kids Wish Network. For example, a child who received a wish to go to Disney World when he was four might need a computer when he is eleven. This is especially true when the child has become homebound due to deteriorating health. These wishes are granted on a case-by-case basis and, typically, at least three years must have passed since the first wish.

So.. please help Trisha, it's just the right thing to do....

The Smile Train

See the bottom of this site for the results of the contribution that the Buckeye Beemers made to the Smile Train (:>) (:>).

This boy was helped! He lives in a poor region of eastern asia and needed a life altering operation. He got it thanks to The Smile Train.

The Smile Train is dedicated exclusively to helping millions of children with cleft lip and palat deformities. Since 1999 they have developed over 250 cleft treatment programs in 61 of the poorest contries in the world. These programs have enabled the Smile Train to provide free cleft surgery for more than 176,000 children.
As you can see the child above was overwhelmingly in need of treatment. Until The Smile Train came along he had no hope of getting the condition corrected due to the high cost of treatment and the fact that he was from a very poor environment . He was abandoned by his parents and left to fend for himself. He would have lived a life of disgrace.

The Smile Train located him and arrangements were made for treatment resulting in the hansome boy you see below.

The Buckeye Beemers have been looking for a charity in which to invest for a number of years. The Smile Train seems to be the answer.

Please think about this and contact the club president or any board officer (by email) with your recommendation as to the club's making a contribution.

See below for emails.
